Famine In Somalia Fate Or Colonization?
Famine In Somalia Fate Or Colonization?
Given the problems in the world today, famine and drought in Somalia are, no doubt, at the top of the list. In recent years, along with Somalia in other countries in the continent of Africa, this problem has led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands, millions of people to migrate in order to survive and to struggle for survival in refugee camps.
We as UHİM, sought to address the current drought-induced famine problem in Somalia, believed to be a result of geographical conditions by both the state and the institutions that shape world politics as well as the effect of the media discourse and to determine the reasons for preparing this situation. This report has been prepared in accordance with interview notes and observations of the delegation visited the refugee camp in Daadab, located within the boundaries of capital Mogadishu and Kenya, between the dates of September  11 and 18, 2011, to investigate the real causes of the actual situation in Somalia on-site.
During visit, interviews were held with the various institutions, senior government officials and NGOs in Somalia and Kenya. The information obtained from interviews and observations of our delegation has identified that drought and famine are not the main causes of the tragedy in Somalia; in fact, drought and famine are the result of irresponsible interventions to the nature and society.
Hopefully, this report would contribute to the process of a more extensive re-evaluation of Somalia issue with a questioning approach beyond “humanistic aid”.
