Violations Of Rights Resulting In Poverty And Their Effects On Development
The world has been witness to wars, occupations, holocausts and genocides during the history of mankind, and the poverty and the problem of inequality in income distribution has never been solved. However, things that have been experienced since the geographical discoveries, continued during the industrialization period and are happening today are much more painful compared to what happened in any period of the history.
The violations occurred during the mentioned period are the preparative for the conditions which the nations struggling against poverty are today in. The fact that the nations which have the richest land on the earth having both underground and ground resources are the poorest nations in the world cannot be explained any other way.
Of course the poverty in the world cannot be explained merely by this historical perspective. Today, just like yesterday, who want to have the resources on earth are carrying on similar practices. On the one hand, colonialist powers try to justify themselves before international public by asserting that they retreat from countries in the occupied lands and by leaving puppet governments behind and making obligatory agreements, on the other hand, they continue to benefit from resources they come to exploit for centuries.
Especially on the African continent, separatist policies instigating ethnic differences cause civil wars lasting for years. This process results in both huge loss of life and nonrecoverable financial crises. Regions hit by civil wars are considered to be a market by the countries deemed as peace keeper before world public that hold arms trade in their hands indeed.
Furthermore, it seems that the colonialist mindset is decisive over areas such as education and belief. It can be said that educational facilities are quite limited in the countries struggling with poverty and educated human force is to be transferred to the US and the western European countries through brain drain. As one of the most sensitive areas of human life, belief, can be reduced to a matter of bargain/trade by the policies of colonialist powers and it is intended to make profit from human being’s grievances.
While policies of countries holding global power push countries in poverty into a more severe condition, international institutions such as UN and NATO lay the foundations necessary for these policies be accepted by world public. In finance sector, institutions like IMF, World Bank and World Trade Center undertake the same duty.
International institutions whose principal policies are shaped as part of an insatiable ambition for making profit are one of the main reasons of poverty all over the world today. These huge companies are to benefit from low cost labor force by asserting that they create employment possibilities in countries struggling with poverty. These companies release their products into market in a way through which it damages the country’s local small and medium scale enterprises. On the other hand, while they profiteer through various speculations, they receive huge support during these processes from international institutions.
Social injustice, as one of the most important problems, is a principal reason for poverty as well. Consumption madness is getting more daunting year by year. The scene is quite scary when we compare the situation of people more than 1 billion with a about-1-dollar daily income and the amount of money spent in the Northern America and the western European countries.
In our report titled as “Violations of Rights Resulting in Poverty and Their Effects on Development”, we try to reveal true reasons underlining the situation of more than 50 countries described as “The Least Developed”. We aim at showing that the institutions and countries who give a false impression in a way that they give a hand to countries struggling with poverty and works for them to increase level of welfare are true responsible for current situation. This historical fact must be spoken out before world public and true responsible actors behind world poverty must be called to account. We hope our report be contributive into this process.
