What Does the Global Culture Industry İmplies?
Our press release on "Global Culture Industry Investigation" was presented to the public by UHİM Secretary General Veysel Başar at the press conference held at Haveran Restaurant.
The notion of "globalization" has been regarded as one of the most important agenda items of the world since the middle of the 20th century. Technological developments in the last quarter of the century, especially internet and media, have brought the effects of globalization to the most remote parts of the world's geography.
While the concept of globalization is discussed in sociological, philosophical, political, economic and cultural contexts, practical reflections of the matter are becoming explicit in human and social life. On the other hand, it is now commonly accepted that the representatives of the intellectual infrastructure that is preparing the ground for globalization try to control individual and social life by using some tools and methods.
In our investigation, we tried to focus on the reflections of globalization in the field of culture and art. The positive and negative effects of the global culture industry on national cultures have been examined. In the sequel, The findings in this field and the solution proposal are emphasized. Within this context, many opinions from culture, art, academy, media, civil society and political world have been applied.
When the views of the participants are examined, it will be seen that the "global culture industry" is understood as a structure that generally moves towards the political interests of the West, especially the USA. Besides, It will be seen that, there is a common belief on the western world aims to standardise the societies with instruments such as cinema, television, fashion, tourism, and international organizations like Oscar and Nobel.
On the other hand, it is also understood that the vast majority of our participants see the living process as a civilization crisis. It is emphasized that the modernization / westernization process is a project aiming at a fundamental transformation in political, social and cultural fields, and that the table emerging in the communities presently facing the westernization process should be read as a consequence of this project.
When the ideas put forward regarding the settlement of these problems are examined, it seems that there is also a strong consensus that tools such as cinema and television, which are now considered the most important tools of the global culture industry, should be used to protect and enrich national cultures in the same way.
In parallel with these, accoring to the participants; it is necessary to produce works of art, scenarios, films, cartoons, theater plays in accordance with the essential elements and values that make up our culture .
we should pay attention to the arts belonging to our civilization together with the fields of art that enter our social life in the process of westernization in order to care about these art fields and reach these younger generations.
However, it is emphasized that it is essential to produce a specific language that goes beyond the power-centered language, style and methods of the global culture industry.
We believe that our investigation will contribute to opening the global culture industry up for discussion with different fronts and present new perspectives to the works that being done in this area.
