Press Release About ‘Solidarity Antidote Against Terror’
Our press statement titled as “Solidarity Antidote Against Terror” has been released to the public at a press conference held in the center of the association by Ercan Öztürk, board member of UHIM.
The operations initiated in the wake of the increased terrorist activities in Southeastern Anatolia has been continuing after disruption of the resolution process by the global actors.
Even though the operations targeting the terrorist organization show attention towards civilians in the region, they are affected anyhow and have to leave the operation areas exposing to serious problems of sheltering, health and education.
It is a duty for the politicians, humanitarian aid institutions and media organs to help resolve the grievances of these people. Our suggestions are listed below:
-It should immediately be taken the inventories of the people which had to leave the region.
-Reliable datas about the destinations of the migrants, the places they started to live and their needs should be reached.
-The housing needs of the migrant families should be met. It should be stressed that granting houses or donating the rent could be more helpful than the tent city.
-The children who became distanced from their schools should be immediately transferred to the schools nearby in order to meet their education needs.
-The shopkeepers’ economic loss due to curfew should be compensated.
-The citizens who fell out of work due to the operations should be employed within the scope of ‘Working Programs for the Benefit of the Society’ of ISKUR with priority.
-The rental fee of the hirer of the workplaces belonged to Directorate General of Foundations should be postponed.
-The loss of the citizens whose houses and workplaces damaged during the conflict should be compensated without distinguishing host and hirer.
-The aid campaign for urgently needed products in the region should be initiated through organizing the charities.
-The local governments and social institutions should launch ‘sister family’ projects which overcome the grievances of the people in the region.
-The media companies should responsibly broadcast not only the political dimension of the process but also the dimension of social solidarity.
-The individuals and the families should not be seen as ‘asylum-seeker’ or ‘victims of natural disaster’ in the studies regarding the issue, the mission of social solidarity should be determinant.
