At least 11.8% of Belgian children live in a household where no one works. These are families in a precarious situation, who benefit from social income but remain below the poverty line.
As a result, eight out of ten children growing up in such families are at risk of continuing to live in poverty.
Belgium is the EU's worst performer in terms of the proportion of children in households without work income. It is preceded by France, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Bulgaria at the end of the ranking.
